Regional Internet Deepening,Information Friction and Import Growth——Based on the Perspective of Import Binary Margins
The development of information technology is the foundation for driving the digital economy and high-level opening up of cities.Based on this, the paper proposed an innovative competition analysis framework, taking into account the role of information frictions. This framework empirically tested the impact of regional internet deepening on import growth from the perspective of import binary margins. The study found that regional internet deepening significantly promoted the expansion of import volumes, with the growth driven by import prices, quantities, and varieties. The primary mechanism of this impact was the reduction of information frictions.Heterogeneity analysis showed that, internet deepening in cities with low levels of foreign trade openness significantly reduced the number of imported products.Further discussion revealed that regional internet deepening had a promoting effect on both the"quantity"and"quality"of imports.
