Perceptual Linguistics:A Survey of the Origin of the Theory, the Categorization of Topics and the Creation of the Discipline
Human beings interact with the world through their senses to gain an intuitive grasp of things.Sensory meaning is based on sensory perception, and on the basis of sensory intuitive perception,it is formed by cognitive primary processing. From sensory perception to language encoding,it goes through a series of processes such as sensory perception-perceptual processing to produce meaning-cognitive processing and encoding to produce lan-guage,and so on.The recording and exchange of sensory meanings has given rise to the encoding of sensory mean-ings.The generation of perceptual language is closely linked to the senses, and the relationship is intricate and com-plex,so there is an urgent need for a linguistic research category with the generation and encoding of perceptual meaning as the core issue. To this end, this paper attempts to propose a disciplinary category of a"perceptual lin-guistics"to explain the theoretical origin of "perceptual linguistics"with the five-senses model, the embodied vo-cabulary hypothesis and the cognitive metaphor as the theoretical starting point, and to categorize the research top-ics from the generalized sensory interpretation, the differential interpretation of the transfer order of generalized met-aphors,the interpretation of correlation between sensory sensitivity and vocabulary richness, the multi-model repre-sentation of sensory meaning, and the study of sensory language in deaf and blind individuals.Perceptual linguistics is of greater significance and value in probing into the human sensory world and answering questions about how sen-sory systems connect to words and how sensory meaning's are encoded in language.
