The Servitization of Manufacturing and the Upgrading of China's Manufacturing Position in Global Value Chains:An Analysis Based on 14 Sectors of Manufacturing Industry
This peper explores the impact of the servitization of manufacturing on China's participation in the global value chains(GVCs)and conducts an empirical analysis, based on the data from 14 sub-sectors of China's manu-facturing between 2009 and 2019.The study finds that the servitization of manufacturing significantly enhances Chi-na's GVC participation, especially in medium and high-technology manufacturing, whereas its impact on low-technology manufacturing is not significant. Moreover, the servitization of manufacturing can improve China's in-ternational competitiveness and its position within the GVCs by increasing digital investments, fostering technologi-cal innovation, and reducing production costs.Given the slowdown in global economic growth and external challen-ges,the servitization of manufacturing provides a new pathway for China's manufacturing industry to break free from the low-end lock-in dilemma of the GVCs,positively influencing the high-quality development and industrial upgrading of the domestic manufacturing industry. Therefore,it is recommended to further implement the strategy of manufacturing servitization, increase investments in technological innovation and digitalization, and optimize the business environment to promote the continuous upgrading of China's manufacturing position in the global value chains and its competitiveness.
