Continuity of Revolution:The Experience of the Red Army and the Military Development Strategy of the Chinese Communist Party in the Initial Period of the Anti-Japanese War
In the initial period of the Anti-Japanese War,the strategy of military operations and military develop-ment of the Communist Party of China(CPC)before and after the Battle of Pingxingguan drew heavily upon the historical experience developed during the Red Army period.During the period of Jiangxi Soviet Area, the Red Ar-my developed a paradigm of"dividing forces to mobilize the populace, and consolidating them to counter adversari-al forces".The discussions within the CPC during the early stages of the War of Resistance against Japan regarding"force consolidation or dispersal"can be seen as an evolution and extension of this strategic ethos. When fighting against the Nationalist Army, the Red Army developed special tactics of seizure and capture. However, when con-fronted with a Japanese Army that was reluctant to disarm or surrender easily, the CPC made prompt adjustments to adapt to the changing circumstances of the war.Due to the fact that the Red Army often had to face stronger ene-mies with limited resources,it placed special emphasis on cultivating and maintaining morale. In the early stages of the resistance war, there were many believers in the"weapons-only theory"that the war of resistance was doomed to failure, but the CPC excelled in leveraging its advantage of boosting morale, fighting bravely and boosting nation-al morale during the resistance against Japanese aggression by the whole nation.
