A Preliminary Study of Yuanhe Poet YUAN Zongjian in Tang Dynasty
YUAN Zongjian was an important poet in the Yuanhe period.According to the literature,it is known that he composed nearly 700 poems,but unfortunately all of them are lost.Through the examination of the family of YUAN Zongjian,we can have a general idea of his family background.Combined with the analysis of the poems through which BAI Juyi,YUAN Zhen,ZHANG Ji and others who associated with YUAN Zongjian,we can sort out the official history of YUAN Zongjian and infer the content and style of YUAN Zongjian's poems.The poems of YUAN Zongjian were mainly in modern style,and he was especially good at seven-character quatrains.The content of the poems mostly described officials and leisure life,sometimes discussing poetry with friends,and sometimes describing the elegant life of scholars such as playing Guqin,drinking,and tasting tea.He expressed his reclusive feelings with a simple,natural,flowing and fresh style.Together with BAI Juyi,YUAN Zhen,ZHANG Ji and WANG Jian,he was a representative poet of the Yuanhe style.
