Design of a Microcontroller-based Personnel Density Monitoring System
A personnel density monitoring system adaptable to various scenarios on campus has been designed to address the issues of prolonged waiting times for finding available study rooms and crowded dining areas. The system is built around the STC89C51 microcontroller, which detects the entry and exit status of individuals by sens-ing their presence within the range of the infrared sensors. The system utilizes a digital display to provide real-time visualization of the personnel density in specific areas. It also incorporates LED lights and pre-programmed algo-rithms to trigger alerts when the density exceeds a predefined threshold. The ESP8266 Wi-Fi module is employed to transmit and consolidate the personnel density data, which is then displayed in the crowded areas for everyone to stay informed in a timely manner. The system has been successfully implemented in a university study room in Xin-jiang,China.The results demonstrates its high reliability and usability in monitoring and alerting personnel density across multiple scenarios on campus.
