Xi Jinping's Discourse Style in International Communication:Formation,Characteristics,and Value——A case study of Xi Jinping's signed articles published overseas
From the perspective of discourse style and discourse construction theory,and with 63 Xi Jinping's signed articles published overseas as the core corpus,this paper analyzes the formation,characteristics,and value of his discourse style in international communication.The study finds that Xi Jinping's discourse style in international communication is deeply influenced by the"people-oriented"nature of the Marxist discourse system,the"massification"of Mao Zedong's discourse system,the"mass character"tempered during Xi Jinping's youth years,and the"inclusiveness"and"peaceful nature"of China's excellent traditional culture.Therefore,it has very distinct discourse features:adept at using apho-risms,proverbs,and ancient poetic teachings centered on Chinese culture and the spirit of the Chinese nation,using idi-oms,proverbs,poetry,and famous quotes of the other country linked by its culture and national spirit,using stories of two countries based on friendly exchanges and two-way interactions,and using metaphorical expressions based on universal hu-man understanding and shared emotions.Xi Jinping's discourse style in international communication points the direction for the construction of the international communication discourse system of the Communist Party of China in the new era,high-lights human values with"people's discourse,"showcases the depth of Chinese culture,demonstrates the confidence of a great power of civilization,and while displaying the personal charm of the national leader,it also shapes a positive image of the Party and the nation.
