Study on medium chain fatty acids produced by activated sludge pretreatment with APG06 and CTAB combined with ethanol
The pretreatment of activated sludge can improve the resource recovery capacity, and the com-bination of surfactants and carbon chain extension(CE)technology can increase the yield of high-value MCFA.APG06 and CTAB combined with ethanol as electron donors were used to study the efficiency of medium chain fatty acid production from activated sludge under anaerobic fermentation, and the MCFA production before and after ethanol addition was investigated. It was found that the output of VFA was the highest when ethanol was not added, while the output of MCFA increased significantly after ethanol was added. The addition of ethanol is beneficial to CE reaction and promotes the conversion of VFA to MCFA.The microbial community indicated that high doses of APG06 and CTAB were more favorable to the CE reaction process.
