Analysis of asphalt viscosity-temperature characteristics and fluid behavior for SBS modified asphalt based on rotational viscosity
Three kinds of base asphalt were used to prepare there SBS modified asphalts. The viscosity val-ues of the six kinds of asphalt were obtained for different temperatures and shear rate. The six kinds of base asphalt viscous activation energy(Ea)was calculated using the Andrada equation.According to the power law equation,non-Newtonian index(ζ)and consistency coefficient(μ)were calculated respectively for the six asphalts. The fluid properties of SBS modified asphalt and the dependence of viscosity on shear rate were analyzed. The results show that the Andrada equation can well describe the viscosity-temperature relationship for asphalts as well as modified asphalts and Ea can reflect the viscosity sensitivity to tempera-ture.The modification of SBS can significantly improve the viscosity of asphalt, but the temperature sensi-tivity for different modified asphalts is different.ζ-Values of SBS modified asphalts are all less than 1,in-dicating that the asphalts are converted from Newtonian fluid to non-Newtonian fluid, while the strength of non-Newtonian properties between different types of asphalt varies with temperature. The consistency coef-ficient(μ)decreases with the increase in temperature.
