Microstructure and Tensile Shear Strength of Al/Mg Dissimilar Materials Friction Stir Welding Joints
The friction stir lap welding of 7075 aluminum alloy and AZ31 magnesium alloy was carried out.The microstructure and tensile shear strength of the joints were studied. The results showed that when the Al alloy was as the upper plate, the welding surface was smooth and flat, and the Al/Mg mixed banded structure appeared at the welding interface. The mechanical interlock structure was found when the Mg alloy was as the upper plate. The highest tensile shear strength of the joint was 68.5 MPa when the Al alloy was as the upper plate and the welding speed was 50 mm/min.
