Study on Appropriate Dose of 60 Co-γ ray in Garlic Radiation Breeding
In this study, garlic varieties with different skin colors and ripening stages were utilized as experi-mental materials to investigate the impact of various radiation doses on the growth and development of garlic, with the aim of determining the optimal dose for garlic radiation breeding.A total of six radiation gradients ranging from 6 to 11 Gy were employed, targeting Jinxiang purple garlic,Jinxiang white garlic,Cangshan white garlic, and Guangdong Purple late-maturing garlic. The study revealed that purple garlic treated with a radiation dose of 9 Gy exhibited favorable field performance, while Guangdong purple garlic treated with doses of 6 Gy and 9 Gy displayed enhanced field growth.Comprehensive assessments of garlic scapes treated with 6 Gy and 9 Gy doses revealed superior characteristics compared to the control, while Jinxiang bulbs treated with a 9 Gy dose exhibited superiority. The effects of varying radiation doses on garlic primarily manifested in quantitative traits such as bulb weight, plant height, width, and leaf length, with quality traits remaining unaffected. These findings suggest that garlic treated with doses of 6 Gy and 9 Gy displayed stronger adaptive responses, which was conducive to screen-ing more excellent mutant strains and further enriching garlic germplasm resources.
