Effects of Different Weeding Methods on Growth of Apple Seedlings
The presence of weeds in nursery soil can impede the normal growth of seedlings.Improper weed removal could hinder the normal growth of nursery, therefore,it is important to choose appropriate weed removal methods. In this study, the nursery'Miyato Fuji/G935'was used as the test material to investigate the effects of different weed removal methods on the growth of apple seedlings, the aim is to provide a theoretical basis for the sustainable development of nursery practices. The results showed that ground cloth weeding was significantly higher than that of chemical and artificial weeding, with seedling height reaching 166.07 cm.Different weeding methods also had different effects on lateral branches, ground cloth weeding and chemical weeding resulted in a higher proportion of long branches(56.51%and52.11%,respectively),while manual weeding led to medium branches(52.11%).Ground cloth weeding effectively improved the effective branch thickness and branch an-gle,reaching 3.9 6mm and 62.86°,respectively.In addition, compared with artificial weeding, the cost of weeding was about 150 yuan per 667 m2 per year.In conclusion, the ground cloth weeding not only improves the growth quality of apple seedlings, but also reduces costs, which can be a promising method for widespread use in seedling cultivation.
