Analysis and Prevention Discussion of Failure Mechanism of Rock-fill Dam Face Slab by Extrusion
Three-dimensional finite element method was used to analyze the axial stress distribution and the effect of compression modulus of vertical joint on the compressive stress of face slab of rock-fill dam in order to explore the failure mechanism of rock-fill Dam Face Plate by taking a water conservancy project as an example. The results show that the rock-fill body exerts frictional force in the valley direction on the face slab under the action of water pressure during the full storage period. The axial stress of the face slab dam is mainly compressive stress. The maximum value appears in the middle of the valley, and the tensile stress of the abutment is relatively small. The axial compressive stress of the face slab dam increases during full storage period and subsequent operation period with the increase of dam height. The axial compressive stress decreases obviously after the low compression modulus filling material is adopted in the vertical joint of the pressure area of the face slab.
