The emergence of modern newspapers and periodicals is one of the manifestations of social trans-formation.The group of editors and authors behind these publications underwent a transition from traditional scholars to professional journalists.The Eastern Miscellany was a large comprehensive periodical in modern China.During its initial stage(1904-1910),the gathering of talents was centered around the bonds of fellow villagers and those who passed the imperial examination in the same year,influenced by collegial relationships.This reflects the essence of traditional Chinese social bonds transitioning into moder-nity.Meanwhile,the common political orientation among them is also noteworthy.
