Bookseller's Quibble:Uncovering the Mystery of Medical Literature in Xu Wenchang Yicao
Since the publication of Xu Wenchang Yicao by Shen Deshou in Cixi in 1926,it has become a fact that Xu Wei had medical works.However,in Xu Wei's poems and essays,there is no record of trea-ting people's diseases or taking medicine by his own prescriptions,and the people related to him have never mentioned that he had the ability of healing.And the version of the same name and volume which is earlier than Shen Deshou's typesetting version Xu Wenchang Yicao,Xigengtang's manuscript in the early Qing Dynasty,has no medical content at all.The medical part of Shen Deshou's typesetting version of Xu Wenchang Yicao is the content in volumes 7 and 8 of Yi Lin Sheng Mo written by a medical official Fang Gu in the Ming Dynasty.
