Analysis on the Reform of Military Officer System in the Tang Dynasty
The system of military officers in the Tang dynasty underwent revolutionary changes.It became the starting point for the reform of military officer system in the Tang and Song dynasties.The fundamental characteristics of the official system in the Tang dynasty determined that the military officers had to undertake a lot of temporary work in addition to his own work,which was a supplement to the normal operation of the official system.With the change of war situation and the military system,the temporary work undertaken by the military officers had become perennial and solidified,resulting in the actual separation between posts and duties.Thus,a widespread phenomenon of integrating military officers into hierarchical officials had emerged in the border troops as well as the imperial guards.The development of integrating military officers into hierarchical officials was linked to the transformation of the military reward system and the corresponding change of the civil service system.During the An-Shi Rebellion,the Tang court awarded a large number of high-ranking military posts to the generals,which accelerated the final completion of this process.
