Study on the Name Composition of the Garrison Government of the Yuan Dynasty:Centering on the Jiangnan Garrison Government
The garrison government of Jiangnan in the Yuan dynasty used Wanhu Fu as their military strategic unit. Most soldiers of Wanhu Fu came from the northern Han Army, while the rest were from Tammači,the newly submitted army, and even the native army. The naming of Wanhu Fu was mostly composite, exhibiting not only the unusual phenomenon of combining names of the old and new garrison places, but also incorporating numerous elements, such as the soldiers'place of origin, ethnicity, military branch and occupation, and even the level of the military government. The naming of the Qianhu office under Wanhu Fu was relatively straightforward. It was mostly named after the origin place of the soldiers, except in special circumstances. The name composition of Wanhu Fu and Qianhu offices holds significant reference value for understanding the origin, internal composition, and even the nature of the garrison system of Jiangnan in the Yuan dynasty.
