Study on the correlation between laboratory characteristics of children with burn and burn severity and the length of hospital stay
Objective To investigate the relationship between laboratory characteristics of children with burn and burn severity and the length of hospital stay.Methods The laboratory characteristics of 104 children with moderate to extremely severe burns were retrospectively analyzed,and the results in moderate,severe,and extremely severe burn groups were compared.The influence of indicators with statistical differences between the three groups on the length of intensive care unit(ICU)stay and total hospital stay was analyzed.Results Among the 104 patients,there were 26 cases of moderate burn,22 cases of severe burn,and 56 cases of extremely severe bum.The levels of white blood cells(WBC),neutrophil ratio,C-reactive protein(CRP),blood glucose,urea nitrogen(BUN),creatinine(Cr),alanine aminotransferase(ALT),aspartate aminotransferase(AST)and procalcitonin(PCT)in severe and/or extremely severe burn group were higher than those in moderate burn group.The lymphocyte ratio,the concentration of potassium ion(K+)and calcium ion(Ca2+)levels were lower than those in the moderate burn group.Spearman correlation coefficient analysis showed that WBC,neutrophil ratio,blood glucose,BUN,Cr,and AST levels were significantly positively correlated with length of ICU stay and total hospital stay,while lymphocyte ratio,K+and Ca2+concentrations were significantly negatively correlated with length of ICU stay and total hospital stay.Logistic regression analysis showed that burn severity and Ca2+concentration were independent influencing factors of total length of hospital stay,and Ca2+concentration was also independent influencing factors of length of ICU stay.Conclusion Blood cells,liver and kidney function,and electrolyte level were closely related to the severity of burns in the early stage of children,and the changes in these indexes,especially Ca2+levels allow for a more accurate analysis of the disease of children.
