The impacts of mesalazine combined with probiotics on intestinal mucosal barrier function and COX-2 level in patients with ulcerative colitiss
Objective To analyze the impacts of a combination of mesalazine and probiotics on intestinal mucosal barrier function and cyclooxygenase(COX)-2 level in patients with ulcerative colitis. Methods A total of 100 patients with ulcerative colitis admitted to our hospital from March 2020 to October 2021 were regarded as the study subjects. They were randomly grouped into a control group(50 cases treated with mesalazine)and a treatment group(50 cases treated with probiotics on top of the control group). The intestinal mucosal barrier function indicators, cytokine levels, clinical efficacy, and incidence of adverse reactions were compared between the two groups. Results After treatment, the total treatment efficiency of the treatment group was higher than that of the control group(P<0.05).After treatment, the levels of COX-2,tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-α,and interleukin(IL)-6 in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).After treatment, the levels of D-LA,DAO,and ET in the treatment group were lower than those in the control group(P<0.05).After treatment, there was no difference in the total incidence of adverse reactions between the two groups(P>0.05).Conclusion The combination of mesalazine and probiotics can effectively improve clinical symptoms, restore intestinal mucosal barrier function, reduce inflammatory factor secretion, and improve treatment effectiveness in patients with ulcerative colitis.
