Correlation analysis of pupil diameter size with visual quality and higher order aberrations in patients after ICL implantation
Objective To investigate the correlation analysis of pupil diameter size with visual quality and higher order aberrations in patients after posterior chamber IOL(ICL)implantation in lens-bearing eyes. Methods One hundred and three patients with high myopia who underwent ICL implantation in our hospital from March 2021 to May 2023 were randomly selected for retrospective analysis.According to the size of the pupil diameter, the patients were divided into 54 cases in the<4 mm group(dark-sighted pupil diameter)and 49 cases in the ≥6mm group(bright-sighted pupil diameter). The change in pupil diameter size of the patients under bright and dark vision environments was observed. The visual quality,higher-order aberration, and contrast sensitivity of patients with different pupil diameters were analyzed in the darkroom environment. Results Compared with the preoperative period, the pupil diameter was larger in the bright-vision setting, and smaller in the dark-vision setting, and the light-dark difference was reduced after surgery(P<0.05).Strehl's ratio and modulation transfer function cut-off frequency was significantly higher in the ≥6 mm group compared with the<4 mm group(P<0.05).Compared with the<4 mm group, the total higher-order aberration, cloverleaf aberration, and spherical aberration were higher in the ≥6 mm group(P<0.05).The difference in the coma difference between the two groups was not statistically significant(P>0.05).Compared with the<4 mm group, patients in the ≥6 mm group had higher contrast sensitivity at spatial frequencies of 3 c/deg,6 c/deg,12 c/deg,and 18 c/deg(P<0.05).Conclusion The pupillary aberration between dark and light vision decreased after ICL implantation, and the size of the pupil diameter correlated with visual quality,higher-order aberrations, and contrast sensitivity. The larger the pupil diameter, the greater the higher order aberration, the greater the contrast sensitivity, and the higher the visual quality.
