Effect of buccal acupuncture therapy on pain and limb function in patients with knee osteoarthritis
Objective To analyze the effect of buccal acupuncture therapy on pain relief and limb function improvement in patients with knee osteoarthritis. Methods One hundred and twenty patients with knee osteoarthritis were divided into two groups randomly, the control group received conventional therapy, the observation group received buccal acupuncture. The clinical efficacy, joint dysfunction, active and passive knee activity, and improvement in quality of life were compared between the two groups before treatment,1 month after treatment, and 3 months after treatment.Adverse reactions after treatment were compared between the two groups. Results Compared with the control group, the effective rate of the observation group was much higher(P<0.05).The differences in Oswestry dysfunction index scale(ODI)scores,Lysholm scores, and visual analog scale(VAS)scores of the two groups were not significant before treatment(P>0.05).After 1 month and 3 months of treatment, the ODI and VAS scores in the observation group were much lower, and the Lysholm scores were higher(P<0.05).The difference in the scores of knee joint active activity, passive activity, and health survey summary table(SF-36)between the groups was not significant before treatment(P>0.05).After treatment, the observation group'sscores of active activity, passive activity, and quality of life were higher than those of the control group(P<0.05).The incidence of adverse reactions in the observation group was significantly lower(P<0.05).Conclusion Buccal acupuncture therapy for patients with knee osteoarthritis can promote the improvement of knee joint function, reduce the pain sensation of patients, and is safe and reliable in treatment.
