Relationship between chewing areca nut and grading of endoscopic esophageal mucosal injury, histopathology in gastroesophageal reflux disease
Objective To explore the relationship between chewing areca nut and grading of endoscopic esophageal mucosal injury, histopathology in gastroesophageal reflux disease(GERD).Methods A total of 196 patients with GERD were enrolled as the research objects between August 2020 and August 2023.All patients underwent endoscopy.According to chewing degree of areca nut, patients were divided into mild group, moderate group and severe group. The grading of endoscopic esophageal mucosal injury and histopathology in the three groups were compared. The relationship between chewing areca nut and grading of endoscopic esophageal mucosal injury, and histopathology in GERD was analyzed. Results The esophageal mucosal injury in mild group was milder than that in moderate group and severe group(Z=38.85,P<0.05),and histopathology results were better than those in moderate group and severe group(Z=31.99,P<0.05).Spearman correlation test showed that chewing areca nut was positively correlated with the grading of endoscopic esophageal mucosal injury and histopathology results in GERD(r=0.346;r=0.281,P<0.05).Conclusion Chewing areca nut is related to the grading of endo-scopic esophageal mucosal injury and histopathology in GERD,which can provide a reference for clinical diagnosis of GERD
