“Recover Society”：A Key Issue in China s Social Work Transfor-mation
In the age of the “Great Transformation”, China is faced with the task of transfor?ming its traditional social work. The author of this thesis finds great similarities between the current social transformation in China and what Karl Polanyi describes in The Great Transforma?tion. Inspired by Polanyi?s theory of embeddedness, the author proposes in the paper that“recover society” is essential for China to successfully transform social work by restoring the pri?mary “society-oriented” professionalism, making communities the practice platforms and re?establishing social work as the self-protection system of society.
