Difference and Participation:Lévy-Bruhl's Anthropological Lega-cy and Contemporary Relevance
Lucien Lévy-Bruhl is unique in the history of anthropology. For more than a century, there have been many debates around the concepts he coined, such as"primitive mentality","pre-logic"and"concept of participation".Some researchers see him as the opposite of modern anthropol-ogy,and even Lévy-Bruhl himself recanted some arguments in his later years.By examining the re-search process of Lévy-Bruhl and reviewing his exchanges, collaborations, and debates with contem-poraneous scholars, the paper attempts to put his theories back into the academic context, especially the idea of"difference"and"participation"and points out its significance in the development of an-thropology in recent years.
