A Study on the Accounts of Ancient Overseas Peoples in Chinese Official History
In the accounts of ancient Chinese official history,peoples within China's borders were called the"Hainei"peoples,while those outside China were the"Haiwai"peoples.Since Sima Qian's Shiji(The Records of the Grand Historian),the tradition of chronicling the overseas peoples in Chinese official history began.The accounts of overseas peoples in Chinese official history present our perception of the world,characterized by stages in time and directions in space.A systemic study on the overseas peoples in ancient Chinese official history has a great significance in enriching the research of cultural exchanges between China and foreign countries as well as the history of the world.In the con-text of the Belt and Road Initiative and the building of a community with a shared future for mankind,it is of great academic value and practical significance in strengthening the study of overseas peoples.
