A Study of Local Culture on Mingzhou's Shenzhou to Goryeo in Song Dynasty
During the reign of Emperor Shenzong of the Song Dynasty, the Northeast Asian region presented a pattern of three-legged stand between the Song,Liao, and Jin.Song court sought to re-store the tributary system centered on itself, and twice sent"Shenzhou"envoys to Goryeo in the first year of Yuanfeng(1078)and the fifth year of Xuanhe(1123)."Shenzhou"was an expression of maintaining the international environment stability of the Song Dynasty, demonstrating the superb ship-building technology of Mingzhou, and also becoming a path for the spread of sea god worship in the Mingzhou. In the practice of restoring the tributary order, the"Shenzhou"as a means of communica-tion and transportation between the Song and Liao was actually a holistic social practice that integrated shipbuilding, folk belief, and tributary trade. The scattered beliefs of Donghai god,Lin goddess,Ba-olang,and Yanyu in the Mingzhou were gradually"standardized"and incorporated into the national ritual system through their association with"Shenzhou",thus creating a sense of national identity and internal unity of regional culture among the people.
