Upholding fundamental principles and breaking new ground is the only way for the de-velopment of Chinese literature and art in the new era.In terms of logic,it is the essential require-ment of Marxism,the essence of the experience of hundred years of Chinese literature and art,and the inevitable choice for the prosperity of socialist literature and art in the new era.In terms of conno-tation,upholding fundamental principles for literature and art means the adherence to the guidance of Marxism,adherence to people's nature,to the leadership of the Communist Party of China over liter-ature and art,and to the creation of socialist literature and art with Chinese characteristics.And breaking new ground for literature and art means innovating theories and practices of literature and art in the spirit of innovation,namely,to adopt new theories of literature and art to guide practices.In terms of practice,we should adhere to people-centered creation and make the past useful for the pres-ent and foreign countries useful for China.Besides,we should explore new phenomena and new char-acters,and rightly use new technologies and new methods,to improve our moral integrity.Only by upholding fundamental principles and breaking new ground can we realize the prosperity of literature and art and promote the development of modern civilization of the Chinese nation.
