The Earthbound China and the Sense of Community for the Chinese Nation——Coexistence in Differences from the Perspective of Cultural Transfor-mation
China's development and change can be scrutinized through a structural change of in-ternal and external relations, which is influenced by the interaction between the internal forces and ex-ternal pressures. The internal forces come from the existence of a longstanding pattern of earthbound China as a reference, behind which there exists from the cultural understanding a bondage deeply root-ed in land. However, the bondage is not a stable structure, but rather a structural adjustment with its own self-adaptation,an adaptation that is achieved through the livelihood dependance and the unwill-ing choice to leave the land. Here,we face an inherent cycle of closure and openness in rural China, and the balance between its diversity and unity is achieved through a dynamic pattern of the unity in di-versity.The transformation of China brought about by the impact of modernity calls for the building of a sense of community for the Chinese nation that pursues the existence of unity in the sense of a crea-tive transformation on top of the modern state. It requires a strategic response based on cultural trans-formation,which would also be a self-turning that brought back into the real life of mass society the existence of culture, art and heritage.
