The Historical Context of the Origin of Chinese Civilization from the Archaeology of Sanxingdui
The new archaeological discoveries of the six sacrificial pits in Sanxingdui have brought new thoughts on several major issues related to Sanxingdui,Chinese civilization, and world civilization.Observing Sanxingdui requires three dimensions:the ancient Shu civilization, the rela-tionship between Sanxingdui and the Yin Zhou civilization in the Central Plains, and the Sanxingdui from the perspective of world civilization. There is sufficient evidence to suggest that the Sanxingdui civilization was born on the land of China and is an outstanding contribution of the ancient Shu civiliza-tion to Chinese civilization. The sacrificial scenes of gods reflected in the Sanxingdui bronze ware are a typical reflection of the culture of Gods worshipping and witchcraft practicing during the Yin and Shang dynasties. To conduct deeper exploration and research on the historical and cultural background be-hind the artifacts of Sanxingdui, and to analyze and compare the cultural views, religious beliefs,re-gional civilization characteristics as well as the exchanges and mutual learning between Sanxingdui and ancient world civilizations from a more macroscopic theoretical perspective,it should not only be the task undertaken by archaeology, but also require comprehensive research from multiple disciplines, levels, directions, and angles.Only in this way can we truly understand the unique value of Sanxing-dui civilization and its enormous contribution to the world civilization.
