The technological framework of Internet groups is essentially a form of instant messa-ging,large in scale but still bounded, legally located between private communication and public places. The specific scope of privacy protection depends on the social relation dimensions of a given network group, such as the familiarity of members, the instrumentality of purposes and the size of groups. The varying degrees, interactions and fluctuations of the dimensions will lead to changes of reasonable expectation of privacy. The more unfamiliar, instrumental and larger the internet groups, the less private the information and the more liberal the information spreads outward. But the commu-nication technology of internet groups is by nature bounded and there are still other laws and social norms limiting the flow of information, especially the enhancement and complement of laws by protec-ting privacy through social norms. Therefore, the privacy of internet groups is under double protection of laws and social norms.
