Analysis of TCM syndrome characteristics of acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease complicated with constipation
Objective:To approach TCM syndrome characteristics of acute exacerbation of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD)complicated with constipation.Methods:122 cases of patients with acute exacerbation of COPD complicated with constipation, who were treated in Yancheng Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine Affiliated to Nanjing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine from july 2021 to december 2023,were selected. The gender, age,mMRC score, constipation score and TCM syndrome types, etc.of patients were analyzed. Results:TCM syndrome types of patients with acute exacerbation of COPD complicated with constipation were mainly characteristized by four types i.e.syndrome of phlegm-heat obstructing lung, syndrome of phlegm and blood stasis obstructing lung, syndrome of turbid phlegm obstructing lung and syndrome of edema due to yang deficiency. These patients were mainly elderly people, and men were obviously more than women. The patient's lung function was poor in the acute exacerbation, and mMRC score was mainly grade 3,followed by grade 4.The patients would be with moderate to severe constipation in the acute exacerbation, while some patients would be with mild constipation;therefore, these patients had need to be treated with medicine. Conclusion:The patients with acute exacerbation of COPD are dominated by elderly patients.Their lung function is poor at the time of onset.TCM syndrome types are mainly characteristized by syndrome of phlegm-heat obstructing lung, syndrome of phlegm and blood stasis obstructing lung, syndrome of turbid phlegm obstructing lung and syndrome of edema due to yang deficiency.
