A new method to investigate water occurrence space in coals
In order to reveal the occurrence characteristics of water phase in nanoscale pores of coal reservoir,a novel test method based on scanning electron microscope(SEM)and energy spectrum analysis was proposed. The results obtained using the new method were consistent with those acquired from online nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy(NMR)experiments under the same experimental pressure. The wall in micro-pores(aperture less than 2 nm)and meso-pores(aperture of 2-5 nm)of coal rock is mostly with hydrophobic surface that makes water phase hard to access pores with diameters less than 20 nm un-der the influence of interfacial forces.Compared with the existing online NMR experimental method, the new method has the advantages of simple testing process and low cost, which can be also applied in different types of oil and gas reservoirs.
