Comparison of the accuracy and predictive value of transvaginal ultrasound and transabdominal ultrasound for the diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy
Objective To compare the accuracy and predictive value of transvaginal ultrasound and transabdominal ultrasound in diagnosing ectopic pregnancy. Methods 215 patients with suspected ectopic pregnancy were examined by transvaginal ultrasonography and transabdominal ultrasonography. The diagnostic efficiency of the two tests was compared. Results The diagnostic accuracy, sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value and negative predictive value of the transvaginal ultrasound were 96.74%(208/215),96.97%(192/198),94.12%(16/17),99.48%(192/193),72.73%(16/22),respectively,which were higher than 82.12%(183/215),86.87%(172/198),64.71%(11/17),96.63%(172/178),29.73%(11/37)of the abdominal ultrasonography(P<0.05).The detection rates of adnexal mass, embryo fetal heart, yolk sac and pelvic effusion of the transvaginal ultrasound were 87.44%、47.44%、53.02%、68.37%,respectively,which were higher than 63.72%、16.74%、36.74%、54.88%of the transabdominal ultrasound(P<0.05).Conclusion The transvaginal ultrasonography is more effective than transabdominal ultrasonography in the diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy, and the detection rates of typical ultrasonic features are better, which is worthy of clinical popularization.
