Failure risk of defective girth welds in long-distance oil and gas pipeline
The rapid development of the long-distance oil and gas pipeline business is faced with enormous safety challenges.Influenced by the construction period, welding technology level, environment, and other factors, girth welds become the weak link in the safe operation of long-distance pipelines, with weld failure responsible for safety accidents in long-distance oil and gas pipelines. This paper conducts quantitative risk research on the failure of defective girth welds. After comprehensively analyzing weld data, meteorological state, surrounding population distribution, and other environmental factors, this paper calculates the failure probability with a combination of a failure assessment diagram and the Monte Carlo method. In addition, the Phast/Safeti software is used to calculate the failure consequences with a defective girth weld in the 3rd West-East Transmission Pipeline as the objective.According to the failure probability and consequences, this paper analyzes the risks of defective pipelines and stimulates the failure risks in detail, finally proposing corresponding conclusions of quantitative risk assessment.
