Experiment on mechanical strength of silty clay modified by lime
The soil with poor engineering properties is commonly found in the construction of long span highways. In order to study the modification effect of lime on the mechanical properties of silty clay, the influence of lime content, compaction degree and curing period on the compressive strength of modified soil, which was allocated respectively into in the standard curing group and the soaking group, was studied through 42 sets of laboratory tests combined with grey correlation analysis. The regression equations of compressive strength of modified soil concerning lime content, compaction degree and curing period were proposed. The variation rule of shear strength of modified soil was studied by changing the lime content and curing conditions. The results show that compaction degree and lime content are the most important factors affecting unconfined compressive strength of the modified soil in the standard curing group and the soaking group, respectively. With the increase of lime content, the cohesion of modified soil significantly increases, while the increase of internal friction angle is not significant. It is considered that the best lime content is 7%.
