Cause analysis and improvement measures of corrosion under insulation of Q345R steel in marine environment
Corrosion of engineering equipment in the marine environment is one of the great challenges faced in offshore oil pro-duction and transportation.Currently, research on insulation layers generally only focuses on the selection of insulation materials and the effect of insulation, with little attention paid to the corrosion problems caused by water seepage inside the insulation layer. In this paper, corrosion under insulation of the three-phase separator of offshore engineering equipment was studied.Chemical composition analysis, metallographic structure examination, scanning electron microscope observation and energy spec-trum evaluation were carried out on the samples. It was found that the corrosion under insulation belonged to electrochemical cor-rosion.Water and inorganic salts were the main influencing factors of corrosion. The water under the insulation layer mainly came from infiltration water and condensed water, while the inorganic salts mainly came from the marine salt-spray environment and the materials used in the insulation layer of the equipment.Furthermore, several reasonable and effective suggestions were proposed for the corrosion under insulation of the three-phase separator.
