Influence of Floating Height of Floating Plate on Oil Vapor Diffusion for External Floating Roof Tanks
The height of the floating plate of the external floating roof tank is of significant importance with regard to the diffusion of oil vapors and the prevention of environmental pollution above the floating plate. The research object was a 20 000 m3 external floating roof tank, situated in an ambient wind field and with varying floating heights(5 m,10 m,and 15 m).The distribution and diffusion characteristics of oil vapor on the inner wall of the tank and the surface of the floating plate were analyzed by numerical simulation based on the fundamental principles of computational fluid mechanics. The accuracy of the simulation results was verified by experiments. The results indicate that the oil vapor concentration on the inner wall of the tank decreases with increasing floating height, while the concentration on the surface of the floating plate initially decreases and then increases.Furthermore, the influence of radial operation of the ambient wind field on oil vapor diffusion is enhanced, while the influence of large-scale eddy currents is weakened, with increasing floating height. The pressure difference of the surface of floating plate increased and the different number and shape of oil vapor diffusion channels formed with the increase of the floating height of floating plate.
