Evaluation of Mechanical Properties and Microstructural Analysis of X80 Steel Gas Metal Arc Welding Welded Joints
The evaluation of the residual stress, the mechanical properties testing, and the analysis of microstructure of the X80 steel pipe welded joint was conducted to ascertain the suitability of the fully automatic gas metal arc welding(GMAW)process for the requirements of API Spec 5L-2018"Line Pipe".The results demonstrate that the circumferential residual stress of the welded joint is greater than the axial residual stress. The tensile strength of the welded joint is higher than the nominal tensile strength. The low-temperature impact performance of the weldjoint is slightly lower than that of the base material and the heat-affected zone, and the overall toughness of the weld joint is satisfactory. The lateral bending samples generally meet the acceptance criteria. The GMAW welding process is capable of meeting the practical engineering requirements and can be used as a viable welding process for X80 pipeline steel.
