Due to the limitations of platform layout and space, the development of horizontal wells in offshore oilfields has become increasingly important.Among them, ultra long hori-zontal open hole wells(with a horizontal length of≥800.0 m)have become one of the ef-fective ways for efficient development of offshore oilfields due to their high reservoir utiliza-tion rate, large drainage area, and high input-output ratio of single wells. However, for wells with sand control completion requirements, due to the risk of wellbore collapse, high risk of leakage, and easy sand bridge formation caused by long gravel filling in the horizontal sec-tion,it is difficult to ensure the sand control effect of the filling. This article takes the D oil-field in west South China Sea filling sand control as an example to investigate the impact of factors such as formation leakage, filling medium, and construction friction on gravel filling sand control.Simultaneously, the filling medium and key processes are optimized and im-proved.The optimized process reduces the construction risk of ultra long horizontal open hole operations, and the average filling efficiency in field tests exceeds 107.0%.The sand control effect is reliable and has good promotion and application value.
