Bioretention facility biochar filler optimization study
Fillers in traditional bioretention facilities have major drawbacks in stormwater treatment.Biochar has been widely used in artificial wetlands. In this article, leaching and adsorption studies were conducted on different commercially available biochar and different biochar were characterized to select the best type of biochar. The results of leaching and ad-sorption of coconut shell carbon, fruitwood carbon and bamboo charcoal found that bamboo charcoal has lower pollutant release, higher effluent conductivity, more adsorption sites as well as sufficient adsorption capacity, which makes it more suitable to be used as a substrate for bioretention facilities.
