Simulation and optimization of drainage gas production by electrical submersible pump based on gas-liquid separation of inverted shroud
As a dewatering gas production artificial lift,electrical submersible pump(ESP)is prone to gas interference,leading to such failures as gas-lock.Therefore,ESP usage is at a trial stage in gasfield with water production.Effective gas liquid separation is essential to its high efficiency operation.All this necessitates an detailed simulation and optimization on inverted shroud.Take a gas producer with water production as an example,this paper de-signs an inverted shroud to separate gas from well streams for ESP wells.Based on the con-gifurations of ESP tools string,a commercial software modell is built to simulation water re-moval and gas production.The predicted pump intake and discharge pressures from the sim-ulations are in good agreement with measurements from downhole sensors,proving high effi-ciency in gas liquid separation with the inverted shroud.To better cooling for motors seated outside the shroud,a canned ESP with slim recirculation tube is proposed and checked its viability by utilizing the software.This research result has certain promotion value for im-proving the application of electrical submersible pump in drainage gas production well.
