Activated carbon(AC),which is easily available with good properties, was used as an adsorbent for the adsorption and removal of imidacloprid(IMI)from water. The maxi-mum adsorption capacity was 324.93 mg/g at 15℃.From the characterization analysis,it was found that AC has a good pore structure with a specific surface area of 160.5 m2/g.From the adsorption kinetics, isotherm and thermodynamic analyses, its adsorption process of imi-dacloprid included chemisorption and physisorption, which was a spontaneous, exothermic and stoichiometric incremental process, and it was deduced that the adsorption mechanism of AC on IMI was mainly the pore-filling,the complexation of oxygen-containing functional groups(hydrogen bonding and van der Waals'force)and the π-π conjugation effect.
