针对理论上关于CEO职业经历多样性"光明面"和"阴暗面"尚存在分歧的现状,文章全面考量CEO职业经历由单一向多样化转变所带来的利与弊,探究 CEO 职业经历多样性对创新效率的影响效应和作用机理.结果发现:CEO职业经历多样性与创新效率呈倒 U 型关系,过度单一或过度多样的职业经历都将对创新效率产生不利影响;多个大股东并存在上述关系中起调节作用;进一步分析表明,CEO职业经历多样性以倒 U 型模式作用于 CEO 管理能力,影响公司创新效率.上述发现将通才影响效应从线性关系视角扩展至非线性,建立了 CEO 职业经历多样性影响创新效率的理论逻辑,为企业提升创新资源配置能力和构建CEO选聘标准提供了新的理论支持与经验证据.
Generalist Paradox:Study of the Mechanisms Underlying the Impact of Diversity in CEO Career Experience on Innovation Efficiency
In view of the fact that there are still differences between the"bright side"and the"dark side"of CEO career experience diversity in theory,this article comprehensively considers the advantages and disadvantages of CEO's career experience from single to diversified,exploring the impact effect and mechanism of CEO career experience diversity on innovation efficiency.The results show that the diversity of CEO's career experience has an inverted U-shaped relationship with innovation efficiency,and excessive single or excessive diversity of career experience will have an adverse impact on innovation efficiency;multiple major shareholders play a regulating role in the above relationship.Further analysis shows that the diversity of CEO's professional experience affects the CEO's management ability and the innovation efficiency of the company through the inverted U-shaped effect.The above findings extend the generalist influence effect from the perspective of linear relationship to non-linear,establish the theoretical logic that CEO career experience diversity affects innovation efficiency,and provide new theoretical support and empirical evidence for enterprises to improve their ability to allocate innovation resources and build CEO recruitment standards.
