Exploring the low-carbon construction path of university laboratories under the background of"dual carbon"
[Objective]The laboratory is a frontline battlefield for scientific research and talent cultivation as well as a key area for promoting energy conservation and emission reduction and building low-carbon campuses.Considering"dual carbon",universities should further examine the importance of low-carbon laboratory construction to face the challenges pertaining to the"dual carbon"goal. Moreover, universities should innovate and explore new paths and models for low-carbon laboratory construction.[Methods]We analyze the significance of low-carbon construction in university laboratories:① It is the inevitable path to reduce research costs and promote sustainable development;② It's a necessary requirement to build zero-carbon campuses and help achieve"dual carbon"goals;③ it is an important foundation for cultivating high-quality talents to realize the"dual carbon"goal. In addition,we systematically review the existence of low-carbon laboratory construction:① a lack of green experimental concepts and unclear construction goals during the implementation process;② an incomplete low-carbon management system and weak professional team strength;③ outdated waste disposal and potential for process optimization;④ a lack of low-carbon cultural atmosphere that restricts healthy development.[Results]Based on the abovementioned challenges, targeted suggestions for the low-carbon construction of university laboratories are proposed:①strengthen the concept of"green experiments"and establish a low-carbon construction system for laboratories:first, universities should strengthen top-level design and improve institutional construction;second, universities should set low-carbon goals and build an ecological campus;and third, universities should explore the connotation of low-carbon and expand teaching content.② Implement the"four-level linkage"mechanism and build a hierarchical management personnel team:first, universities should clarify the main responsibility and establish a hierarchical management responsibility system;second, universities should introduce professional forces and implement"one room, one policy";and third, universities should play a positive role and improve self-education channels.③ Adhere to the principle of"origin governance"and promote the reform of micro and green experimental processes:first, universities should implement inventory management and strengthen the supervision of waste disposal;second, universities should perform professional training and optimize the experimental process;and third, universities should promote virtual experiments and innovate green experimental models.④ Raise the banner of"people-oriented"and cultivate a low-carbon living culture soil:first, universities should promote the reconstruction of concepts and cultivate environmental awareness and habits;second, universities should strengthen the sense of ownership and encourage all employees to participate in management;and third, universities should leverage professional advantages and encourage the implementation of low-carbon technology achievements on campus. All these suggestions guide universities in exploring the path of low-carbon laboratory construction tailored to local conditions.[Conclusions]Universities should put more effort into promoting green experiments, strengthening supervision and management, cultivating environmental awareness, and promoting a low-carbon culture. Each professional department should combine its disciplinary advantages, find a"tailored"path for low-carbon laboratory construction, and build several green and low-carbon laboratory models to help promote zero-carbon emissions in the education system and achieve the"dual carbon"goal.
