Construction of advanced technology cluster for experimental technology teams
[Objective]The newly proposed construction of an advanced technology cluster in experimental technology teams at universities aims to enhance the professional capabilities of these teams. This initiative is expected to improve the level of scientific research and technological innovation in universities.Advanced large-scale instruments and equipment form the cornerstone of cutting-edge scientific research and serve as incubators for high-level scientific achievements.Experimental technicians who operate and manage these instruments are vital for cultivating comprehensive talents proficient in science and technology, thereby enhancing laboratory vitality.Their professional work directly affects the efficiency of using large-scale instruments and equipment, research into experimental methods, and the development of new functions.Consequently,it affects the development of academic disciplines, the advancement of scientific research, and social progress. Therefore, improving the professional level of experimental technicians is a crucial dimension that universities should pay attention to their development strategies.[Methods]Currently, the abilities of experimental technicians in universities exhibit several characteristics:insufficient professional skills in experimental technology, limited academic exchanges, single training methods, fragmented development of testing platforms, and a lack of communication links. These factors hinder the advancement of scientific research and technological innovation.Establishing advanced technology clusters can provide valuable insights for the innovative development of experimental technology teams by transitioning from individual competition to a cooperative group model.Clusters will reshape organizational structures and resource allocation systems. To enhance the professional level of experimental technicians and build a high-level academic exchange platform, the Laboratory and Equipment Management Department of Zhejiang University has organized the development of advanced technology clusters across different disciplinary backgrounds.Clusters for mass spectrometry, cell analysis, cryoelectron microscopy, magnetic resonance, animal imaging, and electron microscopy are also included. The organizational structure of a cluster is built by alliances among disciplines, regions, and instrument companies. The lifecycle of a cluster after establishment is divided into three stages as follows:formation, growth, and maturity.[Results]The advanced technology clusters are operated by the Laboratory and Equipment Management Department of Zhejiang University. Each cluster undertakes advanced technology activities across various disciplines, fully leveraging advanced technology as a"bridgehead."Implementing these clusters fosters interdisciplinary and collaborative innovation, improves the professional technical level of experimental technicians, and provides favorable support for disciplinary service activities.[Conclusions]The design and establishment of advanced technology clusters are conducive to creating robust academic ecosystems that enhance the professional abilities of experimental technology teams. This initiative sets a precedent for technological diffusion and collaborative innovation within experimental technology teams. Moreover,it provides technical support and guidance for building world-class experimental technology systems and provides insights for developing high-level experimental technology teams in the new era.
