Experimental Study on External Drill Pipe Window by Abrasive Water Jet in Relief Well
For abandoned/old wells with imperfect borehole or fishes, downhole plugging is challenging and gas channeling often occurs.Effective plugging is crucial for these wells to be reconstructed into underground gas storages(UGSs).In this paper,an experiment was conducted on drill pipe window by abrasive water jet in a re-lief well for UGS.The results show that the perforation depth per unit time decreases remarkably with the increase in jet distance, and the perforation time reduces with the increase in jet pressure. The optimum mass fraction of abrasive material for drill pipe window is 6%to 8%,and the abrasive grains of 40~60 meshes can realize good blasting effects. The orthogonal tests indicate that the maximum jet distance increases as the jet pressure rises. To shorten the perforation time, high jet pressure(>25 MPa)and small jet distance(<20 cm)should be adopted. These research findings are referential for field operations.
