Hepatoprotective Effect of Extracts from Eight Edible Fungi on Different Types of Hepatocyte Injury
The protective effects of water extracts and ethanol extracts from fruiting bodies of Pleurotus eryngii,Sanghuangporous vanini,Grifola frondosa,Ganoderma lucidum,Lentinula edodes,Hypsizygus marmoreus(white cultivar),H.marmoreus(brown cultivar)and mycelia of Antrodia cinnamomea on different types of hepatocyte injury induced respectively by ethanol,H2O2 and acetaminophen were studied. The results showed that the ethanol extracts of G.frondosa and A.cinnamomea at 25,50,and 100 μg·mL-1,and the aqueous extracts of H.marmoreus(brown cultivar),P.eryngii,G.frondosa,L.edodes,and H.marmoreus(white cultivar)at 25,100,and 400 μg·mL-1 significantly improved the survival rate of ethanol treated hepatocytes. For H2O2 induced hepatocyte injury, the ethanol extracts of S.vanini and A.cinnamomea at 25,50,and 100 μg·mL-1,and the water extracts of P.eryngii,G.frondosa,and L.edodes at 25,100,and 400 μg·mL-1 improved the survival rate of the hepatocytes. For acetaminophen induced liver injury, the survival rate of the hepatocytes was significantly improved when incubated with the ethanol extracts of S.vaninii at 50,100 μg·mL-1.Correlation analysis showed that contents of polyphenols and flavones were significantly positively correlated with their protective effect on acetaminophen induced liver injury, and polysaccharide content in water extracts was significantly positively correlated with the protective effect of polysaccharides on H2O2 induced liver injury. The edible fungal extracts in this study showed certain liver protective effects in three liver injury models, and their protective activities were closely related to the content of polyphenols and flavones. This study provided a reference for screening edible fungus resources with hepatoprotective and anti-inflammatory activities, and for developing liver protection products.
