Association Between Social Participation and Mental Health of Elderly From Perspective of Active Aging:Based on 2018 China Health and Retirement Longitudinal Survey
Based on the data of the 2018 china health and retirement longitudinal survey, the impact of social participation on the mental health of the elderly was empirically explored using the ordinary least squares model, the two-stage least squares model, and the propensity score matching method model. The logical relationship between the three pillars of active ageing,"participation","health"and"security",and mental health of the elderly was described. The results showed that:social participation had a positive and significant effect on the mental health of the elderly;the"health"variable had a significant impact on the mental health of the elderly, among which self-rated health had a positive and significant impact, and chronic diseases had a negative and significant impact on the mental health of the elderly;the"security"variable had no significant effect on the mental health of the elderly. It further proposed targeted countermeasures, such as paying attention to the social participation of the elderly, caring for the physical health of the elderly, and paying attention to the mental health of special groups.
