Based on corpus analysis,the pragmatic function of the construction"shuo shenme ne(说什么呢)"was explored by combining description and explanation.It was found that the construction is mainly used for discourse negation,and its type of negation is metalinguistic negation,which could be manifested as scolding,discontent,feign blame and other emotions.The formation of its negative meaning is related to people's suspicion of"doubting the good but believing the bad",and the addresseer's construal of it is usually guided and restricted by the cooperative principle and relevance maxim.
