The Head Air Cushion with Adjustable Prone Ventilation Support in Patients with Severe ARDS
Objective To develop a head air cushion with adjustable prone ventilation support that meets the requirements of prone ventilation for patients with severe ARDS and explore its clinical efficacy in prone ventilation. Methods A self-developed head air cushion with adjustable prone ventilation support(head air cushion for short)was established as a utility patent model(patent number:ZL 2017 2 0526984.6).32 patients with severe ARDS admitted to the Department of Critical Care Medicine of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Nanchang University who under-went prone ventilation treatment were selected as the study subjects.Among them,14 patients ad-mitted in 2017-2018 were categorized as the control group, using traditional soft pillows for prone ventilation;18 patients admitted in 2019-2020 were the observation group, using the head air cushions for prone ventilation;the incidence of complications related to prone ventilation,positio-ning time, and duration of prone position ventilation were compared between the two groups. Results There was no statistically significant difference in the comparison of the incidence of un-planned extubation of the artificial airway in the 2 groups(P>0.05);the incidence of unplanned obstruction of the artificial airway and facial pressure injury in the observation group was lower than that in the control group(P<0.05);the placement time of posture in the observation group was shorter than that in the control group(P<0.05);the duration of prone ventilation was longer than that in the control group(P<0.05).Conclusion Head air cushions with adjustable prone ventilation support could shorten positioning time, prolong the duration of prone ventilation, and reduce the incidence of prone position-related complications, suggesting that they might be suit-able for use during prone ventilation in ARDS patients.
